Tour Description:

Our excellent english speaking driver guide will meet you right at the exit of your ship at 8:00am with a sign bearing your name to start out on your overview day of San Gimignano and Pisa. He will be happy to give you information about this beautiful town on the drive in.  San Gimignano is famous around the world for it`s more that 17 medieval towers abutting the 13th century pilgrim routes from Northern Europe to Rome.  Dante was a noted visitor in 1300 and it is here at the main gate where you will have time to explore on your own.  Here you will find the most beautiful of all of the Piazza`s in San Gimignano, the Piazza della Cisterna, the famous well in the center of the square that dates back to the 13th Century.  You may wish to spend some time exploring and shopping in this charming town you are sure to fall in love with or you may choose to visit other sites such as the Chiesa Collegiata. This is the Duomo of San Gimignano and it dates from the 12th Century.

Depending on your tastes and budget your driver guide will take you to the best-hidden, local establishments for a typical lunch and/or to visit other quaint little shops with some free time to explore San Gimignano. You may choose to have a light lunch paired with a wine and olive oil tasting. You’ll get a chance to sample various red wines where the wine is made the “old-fashioned way” in a family-run vineyard. Traditional cold cuts, cheeses and bread with an olive oil sampling can accompany this fantastic local wine that you will not find in stores at home. We will also arrange a private tour of the wine cellar just for you.

Following lunch, we will make our way to Pisa. The driver guide will be happy to give you a general introduction to the city before dropping you off to explore at your leisure. The visit to Pisa includes the Piazza dei Miracoli where you can admire the city`s Romanesque architecture of the Cathedral, Baptistery and the Leaning Bell Tower. These buildings laid out on the sprawling green lawns are the most beautiful and important examples of Tuscan Romanesque architecture in all of the history of art.  There is time to climb the Tower but we do not arrange these tickets, rather it will be up to you to secure them. After enjoying the San Gimignano and Pisa highlights you will be ready to head back to the port with incredible knowledge and feeling like you have really had a good taste of this part of italy. With a 3:45pm departure to Livorno you can expect to arrive by about 5:00pm.

• This tour starts from the port of Livorno at 8:00am.
• The approximate length of the day is 9 hours.
• Some sights may have a small admission fee that can be paid on the spot.  Tickets cannot be purchased with credit cards.
• Please let us know in advance if you would like one of the wine tasting options so that we can arrange this in advance. (see pricing options above)
• If you want to climb the Leaning Tower, the tickets must be arranged by you about a month to three weeks before your tour date based on when dates are released.  We are not able to make this particular reservation for you. The best time to schedule the climb up the tower on this day trip is generally 3:30pm (not later than 4pm). We will let you know if otherwise, please check with us if you are unsure.
