Tour Description:
At 8.30AM your day starts driver escort will be waiting with a sign bearing your name. We will be waiting for you with a comfortable, air conditioned, late model Mercedes van to start out a day of amazing sightseeing.
You will set out for the incredible city of Firenze, as we Italians call it. The drive is approximately 75 minutes until you reach your first stop at Piazzale Michelangelo for a panoramic view of the city. Here you will see some of the main sites of the city with a little introduction to Firenze. Before heading into the center you will make a quick stop for a cappuccino just to be sure that you are awake and ready for the day.
Florence is world renowned as the birthplace of Renaissance art, history, and architecture, and thanks to Dante, also the Italian language. You will see some of the major highlights of Florence including the main square of Piazza della Signoria, the main cathedral (known as the Duomo), and the church of Santa Croce which is the burial place of Michelangelo, Galileo and a host of other famous Florentines. There is also time for the Leather School of Florence started by the Franciscan monks, jewelry shopping on the Ponte Vecchio, and a visit to the Accademia Museum. We will be sure to make an advance reservation for you so that you can skip the cue to see Michelangelo's David. There will be time for a break and depending on your tastes and budget your driver guide will be happy to suggest the best-hidden local establishments for lunch at a local trattoria with authentic cuisine. In Florence you will thoroughly enjoy exploring the city highlights on this overview day and if you are not doing the optional walking tour, there is time to enjoy the wonderful shopping that Florence has to offer. At about 3:30 you will take in the beautiful countryside as you drive back to the port of La Spezia and will set sail with a day full of wonderful memories of this part of Italy.
