Tour Description:
Home of St. Francis, the Patron Saint of Italy. This is a journey to the enchantingly spiritual Assisi, an experience you won’t soon forget. This medieval Umbrian city with pristine streets, built in marble, is both beautiful and captivating at the same time. Here you will see the famous sites of Assisi, with time to explore on your own.
Your driver guide will help you to move to and from the more distant sites on such site is of St. Francis' Eremo where you will have time to surrender to the peace and calm in this natural environment. As this site is higher up in the mountains and not central to the other sites it is crucial to have a driver at your disposal. Some of the more central sites you can visit during your walking tour with the local guide are the Basilica of St. Maria degli Angeli (The Porziuncola), The Basilica of St. Francis, and The Basicila of St. Chiara.
We will also allow time for a typical Umbrian lunch and your driver guide will be happy to provide suggestions to fit your tastes and budget.
The tour includes also a local walking guide to make the most of your time for the Basilica’s of St. Maria degli Angeli, the Basilica of St. Francis and the Basilica of St. Chiara allowing you to gain a deeper understanding of what you are seeing. Time allowing, you may also see such sites as the Comune Square, Casa di San Francesco (childhood home of St. Francis) and Temple of Minerva with the walking guide.
Additional Information To Note:
- This tour starts from your local Rome area hotel.
- The approximate length of the day is 10 hours and Assisi is about 2.5 hours from Rome.
- Please note that we do not offer this tour on Sundays as there can be no touring or explaining in the churches on this day.
- In case you just can`t get enough, you can add additional time at an hourly rate for either the driver guide or walking guide, if you would like the walking tour to be longer than 3 hours then we also need to extend the time of the driver as well as the guide. Please ask for pricing in this case.
- The cost of the tour does not include the cost of headsets to amplify the guide's voice (1.50 euros per person, only for the Basilica of S. Francis)
- Tickets are required to enter the Basilica of S. Francis at a cost of 2 Euros per person and they will be purchased upon entry.
- Headsets, lunches and gratuities are not included in the price of the tour.
