What You'll do in this tour
We highly recommend the walking tour option in Florence with our local guide since Florence is best visited on foot. You will save precious time by taking this 6 hour tour to learn about the highlights of the city, including important churches, countless squares and fountains, the famous Ponte Vecchio Bridge, the Uffizzi gallery highlights and of course, Michelangelo and his works inside of the Accademia.
Michelangelo, Donatello, Giotto, Dante and Boccaccio are just some of the many famous people to come from or live in the city of Florence. Called the Athens of the Middles Ages, Florence was founded in the 1st Century B.C. If you have never been to Florence this is the short tour is the perfect tour introduction to experience the major historical and artistic sites of the city. Michelangelo’s David, the Cathedral and Dome of Brunelleschi, Tower of Giotto, the beautiful Signoria Square, the Ponte Vecchio and the leather market can be visited during your time with your walking guide. Learn about the Church of Santa Croce (the Basilica of the Holy Cross), where some of the most illustrious citizens of Florence such as Michelangelo Buonarroti, Niccolo Macchiavelli, Galileo Galilei, Ghiberti and Alfieri are buried. Florence is truly a museum without walls so there is plenty to explore but we will be sure to include the two biggies, the Accademia and the Uffizi Gallery on this tour.
Additional Information to Note:
This tour starts from your hotel lobby unless we tell you that you will have a meeting point in the center of Florence. The alternate meeting point if assigned is (In front of Hotel Savoy at Piazza della Repubblica, 7, 50123 Firenze). If you will be arriving by train and without luggage, we can also arrange to meet you at your arrival train platform into SMN station.
Approximate tour time is 6 hours.
We often plan to break up this tour into 2 segments from 9 to 12 and again from 2 to 5PM. This way you are able to have time on your own to rest and have something to eat during available lunch hours. We will communicate if this timing will shift or your guide will let you know how the day will be divided based on ticket availability. Please notifiy us in advance of booking or in the booking process if you have particular must see items in mind.
Because you have chosen the walking tour it will be assumed that you will want to see the David at the Accademia and visit the Uffizi Gallery and so we will automatically make reservations for you at both unless you tell us otherwise immediately upon booking. Time will not be sufficient to tour the entire Uffizi Gallery on this tour unless you only visit that particular museum with the guide and then a few city sites eliminating the Accademia. Another option could be visiting just the museums of Uffizi and Accademia but no city sites. Please let us know if you have specific ideas about what you want to see or if not we will do a mix of the Uffizi, Accademia and city highlights. This is important to know in the booking process before we reserve your tickets.
Some other sights may have a small admission fee that can be paid on the spot and this varies based on individual interests.
Please note that the museums are closed on Mondays and the Duomo is closed for the early part of the day on Sunday. If you are touring on a Monday we will show you open air sites in the city.
We do not climb the dome during this tour, but it is worth exploring on your own if interested.
Please note it is prohibited to bring backpacks, camping or other bulky bags or luggage / trollies. You are allowed to enter with medium and small size backpacks carried on a shoulder which must be checked by metal detectors and/or opened and visually inspected before entering.
